The first call with a new client runs half an hour and still misses the domain, the photos and who writes the text. I would rather learn those before we talk, so the call is about decisions.
Use this when
- You design or build sites for small businesses.
- You want the client's goals and content status before you quote.
Skip it when
- The client has a large site that needs a full technical audit. This is a first intake.
- You need files from them. The form takes links only.
What is asked and why
The business and its goals come first. Pages and features size the job. Content status is the biggest risk to your deadline, because sites wait for words and photos. Sites they like show their taste. The domain and the launch date set the plan.
What a client's AI would ask
"What does your business do?" Then "Which pages do you need?" Then "Is your content written yet?" It lists every answer and sends only after a yes. See agent-fillable forms.
Find more in forms for agencies. Pair it with a branding questionnaire when the client also needs a logo, and send a website feedback form once the site is live.
Questions
Should the client give a budget?
Ask for a rough number in the last field. It stops you designing a site far beyond what they can fund. Leave it optional if you prefer to discuss it on a call.
Can the client send logos and photos?
Only as links to a shared folder. Ask them to open the folder to anyone with the link, then keep those links in your project notes.
How do I use the answers to write a quote?
Count the pages and features they ticked, then check the content status. Late content is the usual cause of delay, so allow time to chase it.
